| 2006 was Denise Swanson's most ambitious year of book tours: twenty states, from California to Florida to Washington, DC. Her longest single road trip was in June. Denise was invited to teach a class at the Murder in the Grove conference in Boise, a wonderful city. That region was new to her, so her Personal Assistant and Navigator (and husband) Dave proposed they rent a car and drive back to Chicago on a ten-day, 2700-mile Great Northern Tour: Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Denise autographed books at ten stores, and left gifts and promotional items for their staffs. En route they drove through stunning scenery and awesome national parks like the Little Bighorn Battlefield, Devil's Tower and Mount Rushmore. Over mountains, prairies and badlands, that adventurous tour yielded outstanding book sales, plus the busiest month ever for her web site. |

Of course large states like California and New York are important in her book tours, but so are small states like North Dakota. While planning her Great Northern Tour, Denise remembered that in 2000, some readers in Fargo drove 250 miles each way to see her at an event in Minneapolis. Their dedication was impressive, so she was happy to see them in one of their local bookstores. Another highlight in North Dakota was a fabulous steakhouse in Bismarck, a hearty treat at the midpoint of her tour. And a bookstore in Grand Forks wheeled out a huge cartload of books for Denise to autograph — they have regular customers from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada! In states large and small, the West Coast to the East Coast, the Deep South to the Northern Tier, as well as internationally, Denise Swanson's Scumble River Mystery series appeals to a wide variety of big city dwellers and rural readers of all ages. Thank you all for your support. Trivia: What is the capital of North Dakota? Bismarck! |
