David Stybr: Engineer and Composer

It's Left Brain vs. Right Brain: best 2 falls out of 3

George Frideric Händel: Arrival of the Queen of Sheba (transcribed David Stybr for Tuned Percussion Ensemble: Glockenspiel, Celesta, Music Box, Steel Drum, Xylophone, Marimba and Vibraphone) (3:30)

Commentary by Left Brain and Right Brain.

Left Brain: "This is a transcription of an orchestral piece by George Frideric Händel. Taken from his oratorio Solomon, the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba has been arranged many times. The repeated chords and numerous arpeggio figures lend themselves very well to tuned percussion."

Right Brain: "It's been said that Händel was ½ German, ½ Italian and ½ English; he was a very large man. B-Flat as it may, Georg Friedrich Händel was born in Germany, lived 5 years in Italy, and finally settled in England under the assumed British name George Frideric Händel. Despite the odd instrumentation, this transcription is pretty straightforward. The woodwind parts are transferred to bell-like instruments (Glockenspiel, Celesta and Music Box), the string parts to mallet instruments (Xylophone, Marimba and Vibraphone), and the bass to a Steel Drum."

Left Brain: "This transcription was completed on Leap Day 2008 in Tampa, Florida."
